Integrating Symbol Security with Okta allows you to:
- Control in Okta who has access to Symbol Security.
- Enable users to sign in to Symbol automatically with their Okta AD.
- Manage your accounts in one central location - Okta AD.
Follow the steps below to learn how to configure the SSO for your company:
Create App Integration
Step 1: Access to Okta Applications
- Open a new tab and sign in to your Okta Admin Console
- Navigate to Applications & Resources > Applications, and then click on the “Create App Integration” button.
- Select the SAML 2.0 option from the modal, which is the XML-based open standard option for SSO.
- Click on Next.
Step 2: Create SAML Integration
General Settings:
From the General Settings step, fill in the form with the following information:
- App Name: Symbol Security SSO
- App Logo (Optional): You can download it from here: Download Symbol Logo
- App Visibility (Optional): Enable it if you don’t want to show the app icon to users.
- Once completed, click Next.
Configure SAML
🅰️ Section: In this first section, you need to fill in the following fields that can be found in the Symbol App:
- Single Sign-on URL: Copy and paste this link from the Reply URL (Assertion Consumer Service URL) in the Symbol Application settings.
- Audience URI (SP Entity ID): Copy and paste this from the EntityID in the Symbol Application settings.
- Name ID format: Set this value as “EmailAddress”
- Application username: Set this value as “Okta username".
- Update application username on: Set this value as “Create and Update”.
🅱️ Section: In this section, you can preview the XML file required for your Symbol Security settings. You can either click on “Preview the SAML Assertion” to open the metadata and save it as a .xml file, or click on Next to advance to the next section and save it later.
Step 3. Feedback
From this feedback section, simply check the “App Type” option saying “This is an internal app that we have created”, and click on Finish.
Configure SSO
Download Service Provider Metadata
At this point, the application is already created, so you’ll be redirected to the app details page. Locate the “Sign On” tab and, from the SAML 2.0 section, copy the Metadata URL, and follow these steps:
- Open the Metadata URL in a new tab.
- Right-click anywhere on the page
- Click “Save As” to save the page as an XML file.

- Google Chrome/Microsoft Edge: Select Save As and be sure that it’s saved as metadata.xml with format XML Text.
- Safari: Select Save Page As and be sure that it’s saved as metadata.xml with the format Page Source.
- Mozilla Firefox: Select Save Page As and be sure that it’s saved as metadata.xml with the format Web Page, XML Only.
- Internet Explorer: The download will start immediately; be sure to click on the Save As button, and save it as metadata.xml
Upload Service Provider Metadata
Once you have downloaded the .xml file from the previous page, it’s time to upload it on the Symbol Security platform, so navigate to the Settings of your Company or MSP/vCISO account -> Locate the SAML Single Sign On (SSO) section -> Click On “Activate” and upload the recently downloaded XML file into the Service Provider Metadata field.
Once uploaded, click on Activate SSO, and that’s it; your SSO will be enabled, so it’s time to set the Attribute Statements in Okta and test with an existing user.
Set Attribute Statements
Follow these steps to set the Attribute Statements for your SSO Configuration in Okta:
- Access the SSO Application you just created
- Click on the “Sign On” tab
- Locate the Attribute Statements section
- Click on “Show legacy configuration”.
- Click Edit
- Add the following attributes to the “Profile attribute statements” section and click Save.

Assign an Okta Test User
- Access the SSO Application you just created
- Click on the Assignments tab
- Click the Assign button and choose the option Assign to People.
- Select yourself from the Users list, then Save and Go Back.
- Then click the Done button**.**
SSO Test
- Log out of Symbol or open a new Incognito Window in the browser.
- Enter the Symbol Security Login Page.
- Enter the user email that is both a Symbol User and is registered on the Okta Portal.
- If everything is correct, you should be able to log in successfully.
