If you encounter the “Access blocked: Your institution’s admin needs to review Symbol Security” screen (Error 400: access_not_configured) when connecting or re-integrating Google User Synchronization, your Google Workspace administrator must approve the application access controls. Follow these step-by-step instructions to grant access:

  1. Log in to the Google Admin Console using an administrator account.
  2. In the left navigation menu, go to: Security → Access and data control → API controls.

Step 2: Manage App Access Controls

  1. In the App access control section, click Manage Third-Party App Access.
  2. Look for Symbol Security under the list of Configured apps or check the Pending apps section. Note: If Symbol Security is not listed, click Add app → select OAuth App Name or Client ID, and search for Symbol Security.

Step 3: Configure Access Level

  1. Hover over or click on Symbol Security and select Change access.
  2. Choose the appropriate Organizational Unit (OU) (typically the top-level domain to apply to all users).
  3. Change the access level to Trusted (allows access to all requested Google APIs).
  4. Click Save.

Step 4: Verify Configuration

Once configured, verify that Symbol Security displays as Trusted (or Verified) under your App Access Control panel.
